History of John F. Glass Jr. VFW Post 2188
John F. Glass Jr. post was instituted July 9, 1931, in Knights of Columbus Hall with thirty-eight members present. The post was named in honor of John F. Glass Jr., of Middleborough Ma. He served with the National Guard in the Mexican border campaign. Called to active duty on July 25,1917, he was assigned to Company D of 101st Infantry, 26th Division and served overseas from September 7, 1917 to October 26,1918, the date he was killed in action in France. The first officers of the John F. Glass post are as follows: Commander Herbert Bean; Senior vice commander John E. Morrison; Chaplin Arthur Dunham; officer of the day Peter Letourneau; guard Jules Gamache; post historian Adelard St. Dennis; patriotic instructor Leo Mooney; sergeant major Leroy Huntley; quartermaster sergeant Lorenzo Pittsley. In 1947 the post bought part of Depot Grove and in October, 1950 broke ground for the new building as Post headquarters.
